What happens in Class 1?

Class 1 is a warm and friendly place where children are motivated to learn in an exciting, busy and purposeful environment. The classroom is set up with many different ‘areas of provision’ which the children can access during independent learning time. Class 1 also has access to its own outside area.

We like to go outside whatever the weather  therefore very important that the children always have their coats and wellies with them.

Their teacher is Miss Hayton for most of the week, however Mrs Ellam teaches on a Monday afternoon and part of the afternoon on a Friday. We are lucky to be supported by lots of fabulous Teaching Assistants throughout the week, we have Mrs Thrower in the mornings and either Mrs Liddell, Evie or Mrs Ellam in the afternoons.

If you wish to contact the class teacher please write a note in your child’s Home/School diary – these are collected in and checked every morning. You could also contact the school office if you wish to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher.

The children work hard to become ‘Superstars’ and earn stickers and behaviour awards.  It is exciting at the end of the day when they can tell their mums and dads what they have learnt.  At the end of the week Miss Hayton awards someone as the ‘Star of the Week’ the person who she feels has worked the hardest, put in the most effort or made a great improvement. This child will be presented with the class award in assembly on Friday afternoon.

The children in Year 1 and Year 2 are given homework each Friday, and this is due in on the following Friday. If homework is not done then it will be done with Miss Hayton on Friday afternoon. Any problems with homework let Miss Hayton know. Homework will always be in the red ‘homework’ book.

This term our topic is ‘Toys and Games’. It is always lovely to see children bringing in different things for show and tell, so if children want to bring in different toys that they like playing with, this would tie in nicely with our topic.
