What happens in Class 1?
Class 1 is a warm and friendly place where children are motivated to learn in an exciting, busy and purposeful environment. The classroom is set up with many different ‘areas of provision’ which the children can access during independent learning time. Class 1 also has access to its own outside area.
We like to go outside whatever the weather therefore very important that the children always have their coats and wellies with them.
Their teacher is Miss Tribe for most of the week, however Mrs Ellam teaches on a Thursday. We are lucky to be supported by lots of fabulous Teaching Assistants throughout the week, we have Mrs Liddell every day of the week.
If you wish to contact the class teacher please write a note in your child’s Home/School diary – these are collected in and checked every morning. You could also contact the school office if you wish to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher.
The children work hard to become ‘Superstars’ and earn stickers and behaviour awards. It is exciting at the end of the day when they can tell their mums and dads what they have learnt. At the end of the week Miss Tribe awards someone as the ‘Star of the Week’ the person who she feels has worked the hardest, put in the most effort or made a great improvement. This child will be presented with the class award in assembly on Friday afternoon.
Tapestry is used in Class 1 as an online learning journey for the reception children. Miss Tribe will post pictures of observations and adult led work the children have completed. This is a great way to see what your child has been learning about in class and choosing to do in their free flow time. Miss Tribe aims to upload at least one observation a week for each child. The children in reception will also have the opportunity to complete challenges in the different areas of the classroom. Once a child has completed five different challenges, they will earn themselves a certificate!
The children in Year 1 are given homework each Tuesday, and this is due in on the following Tuesday. If homework is not done then it will be done with Miss Tribe during a playtime. Any problems with homework let Miss Tribe know. Homework will always be in the homework book. Children in reception will receive home learning challenges at least once a month. While these challenges are not compulsory, it is a great way to help the children consolidate their learning. When you complete a challenge please bring in or take pictures and post on tapestry.
This term our topic is the ‘Rainforest’. We would love to see any work the children do outside of school on the rainforest to bring in for a show and tell and to put on our ‘work to be proud of’ display.
Class 1 has a no toy policy. However if you feel your child may need a toy to help them with the transition please talk to Miss Tribe. Class 1 will do show and tell, if there is time, on a Monday afternoon. This is a great opportunity for children to show off work, books and anything that is related to their learning. To respect our no toy policy, we please ask that toys are not brought in for show and tell
